March 20th is the first day of spring. The older I get, the more I look forward to spring. Don’t get me wrong, I love the seasons, but spring is my favorite. It seems like all of creation sleeps during the winter and “wakes up” when spring arrives. Some describe this as the earth taking a “long winter’s nap.” Some animals hibernate. The simple explanation of this is a state of inactivity. Trees go through a process similar to hibernation called dormancy. Dormancy is like hibernation in that everything within the plant slows down. It is the state of having normal physical functions suspended or slowed down for a period of time; deep sleep.
Madeleine M. Kunin writes, “When all the world appears to be in a tumult, and nature itself is feeling the assault of climate change, the seasons retain their essential rhythm. Yes fall gives us a premonition of winter, but then, winter, will be forced to relent, once again, to the new beginnings of soft greens, longer light, and the sweet air of spring.”
Spring is the morning of creation. It is the manifestation of new life. It is a picture of what God can do in a person’s life. Psalm 30:5 states, “…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Lamentations 3:23 states about the mercies of God that. “… they are new every morning:” In the creation, Genesis 1:3 states, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” Verse 5 states, “… And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
It is God’s desire to give us new life, abundant life. It may be that you have gone through a dark time in your life; a winter, so to speak. Spring is a beautiful time of year often associated with renewal. Maybe it is time for you spiritually to experience a new life in Christ. If you are not a Christian you can be “born again.” Talk about a new life!!! “But as many as received him [Jesus], to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12. If you have any questions about how to become a Christian, we would count it a privilege to minister to you. Our contact information is on our website. For the Christian, we are admonished to “grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. Now that’s really living!
May the light of His word warm your hearts and cause you to experience this abundant life.
