The Holidays are fast approaching! The main meaning of holiday is a “special day of celebration.” We begin, at this time of year, to focus on Thanksgiving and Christmas. These are two very special days and two very special seasons. We certainly enjoy the commercial aspect of these days. It’s fun to decorate, cook, bake, have family and/or company for dinner, give and receive gifts, enjoy time off work or school… for some, football, hunting or other winter activities.
There is also a very spiritual aspect to this time of year. If you read about the origin of Thanksgiving you will find the emphasis was designating the date as “a day of thanksgiving to Almighty God.” The history of this day has been recorded and kept as a record for all these years. Certainly, we have a lot to be thankful for. For the Christian, we are thankful for God’s forgiveness and salvation, for His comfort, peace, mercy, kindness, etc. The Bible tells us in Psalms 69:30, “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” Psalms 118:29 says, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Christmastime is when believers celebrate the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11. Ann Voskamp writes, “So God throws open the door of this world—and enters as a baby. As the most vulnerable imaginable. Because He wants unimaginable intimacy with you. What religion ever had a god that wanted such intimacy with us that He came with such vulnerability to us? What God ever came so tender we could touch Him? So fragile that we could break Him? So vulnerable that His bare, beating heart could be hurt? Only the One who loves you to death.”
Our church would like to invite you to celebrate the birth of Christ at a special service on Sunday, December 9th at 10:00 am at Fellowship Bible Church. We are located at 12243 Red Arrow Highway in Sawyer. We are having a potluck dinner that day and will be hosting a special singing group, the Daniel5. They are a group of five sisters who are passionate about sharing Christ’s love through music. Ever since they started singing together as toddlers, their focus has been to make a positive difference in today’s world. The group desires to encourage young and old alike to deepen their communion with God and attain purpose and direction in their lives. Please join us. You need not bring anything. Our ladies will provide a wonderful potluck dinner. Hope to see you then.
